Gareth Penny is the new Debswana Board Chairman

 

The De Beers Group Managing Director, Mr Gareth Penny has been appointed Chairman of the Debswana Board of Directors for a two year period. Mr Penny has been on the Debswana Board since August 2005 and served as the Deputy Chairman over the past two years. He takes over from Mr. Eric Molale, the Permanent Secretary to the President, who becomes the new Deputy Chairman in terms of the Board Chair rotational arrangements between the shareholders.
 
Gareth was appointed Director of Sales and Marketing of the Diamond Trading Company (London) in 2001, joined the Board of De Beers in 2003, and became Group Managing Director of the De Beers Group of Companies in March 2006.  Early in 2009, Gareth was asked to join the Botswana Economic Advisory Council.  He is a non-executive Director of the Julius Baer Holding Limited Board, the listed leading, and dedicated wealth manager in Switzerland.
 
Educated at Diocesan College (Bishops) in Cape Town and at Eton College, Gareth was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford, graduating with a Masters in Philosophy, Politics and Economics. Gareth is married to Kate and they have two children.
