THE DIAMOND TRUST AND LETLOA TRUST SIGN A P10 MILLION MEMORANDUM OF AGREEMENT

20/05/09 - The Diamond Trust a non-profit making entity through which Debswana and De Beers fund large scale community projects today signed a P10 million agreement for the implementation of the Tsodilo Hills World Heritage Site Management Plan.

The agreement was signed with Letloa Trust. The project will be managed by Letloa Trust in collaboration with the National Museum, communities, tour operators and representatives from land boards, tribal authorities and government agencies.

The Diamond Trust was launched in 2007 and is a vehicle for Debswana and De Beers to support the communities in which they operate in. The project funding which covers a period of three years, will support the development and management of about 16 000 hectares of land surrounding Tsodilo Hills, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Diamond Trust financial assistance will go a long way in the development and implementation of an integrated community based management plan for the land, allowing local communities to take a lead role in the development of conservation and tourism activities.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Managing Director of Debswana Mr. Blackie Marole said his company is proud to support efforts aimed at enhancing community development and the conservation of Botswana’s heritage.

The Diamond Trust is a testament to the unifying power of a common set of values that guide the De Beers Family of Companies in the quest to live up to the diamond dream.
