JWANENG, 25/06/07: Jwaneng Mine’s corporate social responsibility was last week praised by members of the Committee of African Ambassadors to Botswana.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, His Excellency Belmiro Jose Malate of Mozambique said “We have been impressed by your corporate social responsibility. There are many rich companies in the world, but not many share what they have. You are truly committed to the communities you serve.”
Expressing gratitude for the warm welcome which the Ambassadors and High Commissioners received, Belmiro Jose Malate said “It is obvious from our visit that you have very high standards”. The Diplomats’ programme included a tour of the pit and a visit to the Infectious Diseases Care Centre at Jwaneng Mine Hospital..
The delegation included Ambassadors and High Commissioners from South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Angola, Nigeria and Kenya.
High accolades were also received from the leadership team of CATOCA diamond mine in Angola who visited Jwaneng Mine last week. Speaking at a dinner in honour of the Angolan visitors, CATOCA General Director Dr Jose Ganga Jr said “We have come to drink from your knowledge as they say in our country. Our team has been impressed by your knowledge and experience in the field of diamond mining, and we would like to follow the example of the world’s leading diamond producer. Your performance is outstanding, and we believe we have a lot to learn from you.”
CATOCA is the fourth largest diamond mine in the world, and is owned by a consortium of international mining interests, including Endiama (the state mining company of Angola), Alrosa of Russia and Odebrecht of Brazil. |
