BPC EXPANSION

MORUPULE, 13/12/2006: 08:55, A proposal to optimise surface layout infrastructure that will afford the Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) expansion has been approved by the Morupule Colliery.

With the projected tonnages required by BPC inferred, Morupule’s Section Manager David Kgoboko says, “Morupule Colliery is confident that the required tonnage of coal will be supplied as well as surpassed since the coal resource in the region can sustain the required tonnages through out the life of the Power station.”

Morupule continues to confidently discuss an extension for the mine’s lease area towards the Kgaswe region, which is projected to supplement the measured 39 million tons of coal, mined by underground methods, within the current Morupule lease area.  Morupule Colliery has also started working on a Coal extraction strategy that aims to have better understanding of the resource through geological modelling as well as optimising Mining Methods.
