ORAPA: The Executive Vice President of the Ivanhoe Mines (Thailand), Douglas Kirwin says Botswana has one of the most efficient mining operations in the World. Kirwin, who was on a 1-day tour of the Orapa and Letlhakane Mines Tuesday said he was fascinated by the extreme professionalism that reigns within the mines’ Geology section, adding he has never witnessed such before. He commended Debswana for responsibly and passionately recovering the precious stone and utilizing that for the benefit of the community.
“Botswana’s mining industry is an example to many around the world. It is great to see the diversity that the country now has within the industry, with a mixture of diamond, copper, nickel, among others. The future looks good in as far as the industry is concerned” he said.
Kirwin is a geologist and worked for Anglo American in the 1970s.
