ORAPA 11/6/07: The DeBeers Chairman, Nicky Oppenheimer is set to visit Orapa and Letlhakane Mines tomorrow, 12th June 2007 as part of his annual visit to Debswana Operations. While in Orapa, Oppenheimer will be briefed on the performance of the Mines since his previous visit to date.

According to the Mines’ Public and Corporate Affairs Manager, Thapelo Letsholo, Oppenheimer’s visit to Orapa is pivotal as it signifies the DeBeers Chairman’s appreciation of the operations.

“It is always a great honour to host the De Beers Chairman here in Orapa. We look forward to tomorrow, as it will give us an opportunity to share with our key stakeholder the progress we have made to date. We will discuss the challenges we’re facing as an operation, with a view to agree on how best we can resolve them as we continue to make strides in the realization of our vision to be a world class diamond mining company that the rest of the mining companies in the world benchmark against,” said Letsholo.

Orapa is the world’s largest diamond producing mine by volume. Oppenheimer is today in Jwaneng, the world’s richest mine by value. He is set to return to South Africa soon after his visit to Orapa tomorrow. De Beers and the Botswana Government share a 50-50 stake in the ownership of Debswana.
