DEBSWANA SCOOPS GOLD AT THE SPECIAL OLYMPICS GAMES

ORAPA: Debswana has done it again in the education field. The company’s Orapa Special Needs School outclassed their counterparts from all over the country to win gold medals at the Special Olympics Soccer Games for People with Intellectual Disabilities, held in Gaborone.

According to one of the school’s Special Needs teachers, Tebogo Ditlhokwa, this is highly attributed to “hard work on the part of coaches but profoundly, the dedication of the pupils towards excellence”.

The school sent 16 pupils to the games, with 7 girls under the 16-21 age group category and 9 boys vying for the 12-15 year old category. Both teams scooped GOLD medals. Ditlhokwa says the girls have thus qualified for the World Special Summer Games to be held in China in October next year.

“Debswana must be highly commended for the role it continues to play towards the development of children, especially that the company invests a lot of money towards education irrespective of the form of education it is. As a Special Needs school, we are not short of anything, the company provides high-tech equipment and all other resources to ensure optimum performance from the pupils. .We really appreciate that and hope many other companies can emulate that” he said.

Ditlhokwa also called upon all parents with special needs’ children to give them a chance to prove themselves as they too, have a lot to offer to the development of Botswana.
