[23 September 2008] - Kgosi Gonkgang Mankgatau of Rakops has commended the Orapa and Letlhakane Mines for their Corporate Social Responsibility through actively participating in putting off fires that recently engulfed the Central Kgalagadi Game Reserve- CKGR. His comments come after the Mines deployed a rescue team to join other members of society in putting off the fire that burnt about 80% of the CKGR.
Kgosi Mankgatau applauded the Orapa and Letlhakane Mines for proactively deploying a team of fire fighters, with urgency, saying this demonstrates the Mines commitment to playing an active role in issues affecting the Boteti Sub district and beyond. According to the Mines Public and Corporate Affairs Manager, Kesego Kebelaele, the intervention reaffirms the Mines dedication to continued partnership with the communities in Boteti and surrounding areas.
Ms Kebelaele said that the team was led by the Mines Chief Fire Officer Mazorodze Vutete. Kebelaele further commended all stakeholders who volunteered their time and resources to put off recent fires across the country, adding this demonstrates that the nation still upholds to the spirit of pulling together as espoused in the Setswana culture.
