GRADUATE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

Since 1969, upon realizing that there was an acute shortage of skills the company began sponsoring Botswana citizens to tertiary institutions to meet its needs.

Debswana Graduates

Some of the 2006 Debswana sponsored students during their recent graduation ceremony in the United Kingdom. With them is their Caretaker, Alastair Gordon (wearing black tie).

It is as a result of this that the scholarship and apprenticeship programs became the main sources of localization and succession candidates for Debswana. Of late it has become apparent that there is an increasing number of unemployed graduates in Botswana, while on the other hand the demand for skills has increased. This has made it necessary to review the company strategy so as to make graduates available in a shorter time period and at reduced costs. The scheme now targets graduates in the market, rather than high school leavers. The latter would only be recruited in cases of shortfall in the number of graduates with the required qualifications. Graduates joining the company without the requisite experience will be taken on a development contract. The program shall serve to aid the company ease the stiff competition it has encountered for skill particularly in technical disciplines.

To consolidate its continued strive towards organizational strategic effectiveness Debswana invites citizen scholars in the following disciplines to register with them.

1. Mineral Survey

2. Mining Engineering

3. Geology/ Geotechnical Engineering

4. Hydrogeology

5. Metallurgy/Mineral Processing Engineering
