TRAINING AND LEADERSHIP SUPPLY

Our Vision is to ensure that Debswana’s training and development initiatives are optimally aligned and integrated to support the achievement of our business strategies.

Our Mission is to enable a sustainable supply of competent leaders now and in the future to achieve Debswana’s Strategy 2010 (North Star) objectives.

The overall approach to leadership development is based on the premise that training and development is a vehicle to deliver North Star goals through human asset management.

The current objectives are:

LEADERSHIP COMPETENCY DEVELOPMENT AND ALIGNMENT TO THE NORTH STAR
We aim to build capacity to attain North Star goals as per plan as well as to ensure alignment with other North Star objectives e.g. attraction and retention.  We also want to complement the technical capacity as per North Star and ensure leadership sustainability via graduate development programme.

ALIGNMENT OF TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT NEEDS TO BUSINESS REQUIREMENTS
Emphasis is on high impact but fewer interventions that are focused to attain North Star goals. There must be real value derivation from these.  This will be a joint responsibility between managers and employees in driving and owning Training and Development initiatives.

TALENT MANAGEMENT PROCESS ENHANCEMENT
The aim is to have a fully integrated Talent Management process/strategy that addresses Debswana’s needs.  This will involve participation in the Group Talent Management processes and keeping abreast with developments in the Talent Management arena.  We will also ensure that Debswana’s talent management needs are met through optimal utilisation, development and deployment and mobility of talent.  In addition to these, we seek to enhance the framework that enables a sustainable supply of appropriate talent to drive strategy and profits realisation.

SKILLS DEVELOPMENT
We want to ensure that Debswana is aligned to the legislative requirements by developing long term skills development strategy through registration of our institutions, courses and trainers with the Botswana Training Authority (BOTA).  We will need to have trained assessors and moderators for us to be fully compliant with the requirements of BOTA.  We also want to ensure that we have a proper recording mechanism to enable maximum levy recovery and, ultimately, build an effective and long term relationship with BOTA.

CAPACITY BUILDING
This objective focuses on building capability/capacity within the Training and Development function across the group as well as address identified and prioritised capacity issues in HR.

BUSINESS RELATIONSHIP BUILDING
We aim to optimise the value add to Debswana through joint ventures with service providers as well as to enhance partnership arrangement for continuous improvement in Group Training and Development initiatives.
