According to Lekono Phiri, Debswana's Human Resources Manager who is in charge of Organizational Effectiveness and Talent, "the company saw it fit to actively participate in this programme not only that it gives interns the necessary skills, but because it also correspond with our 2018 HPO strategy which seeks to marshal Debswana to be Always Ahead in everything that it does by encouraging among other things, development in terms of human resources."

Our Internship Programme at Debswana is highly competitive and all prospective interns go through a rigorous interview processes from which we choose the most deserving, highly motivated and innovative fresh graduates who are eager to utilize this opportunity for their career development and advancement opportunities. As part of our strategy to ensure that we properly nurture talent and make sure that our interns gain industrial experience without life challenging hiccups, Debswana also makes an effort to give interns some incentives such as monthly allowances, free transport, subsidized meals and free gym.
Debswana will continue to work with the government through the National Internship Programme to ensure that fresh graduates benefit from this programme at our different places of operation in Jwaneng, Orapa and the Corporate Centre in Gaborone. Having engaged a total of 44 interns at the Debswana Corporate Centre only since we started the programme, we are delighted that most of our interns have been absorbed by the company while some of them have been employed with other big corporations.
