DEBSWANA DIAMOND COMPANY HAS APPOINTED MR. KOOLATOTSE KOOLATOTSE TO THE POSITION OF GENERAL MANAGER FOR JWANENG MINE

This appointment comes after working more than 20 years in both diamond and coal mining at Debswana, Lerala and Morupule mines. 

Koolatotse has contributed immensely towards the sterling performance of Jwaneng Mine; the world richest diamond mine by value and the biggest contributor to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Botswana. He has shared his knowledge in mining cross other operations at local, regional and global level. He started his mining career as a Learner Official at Jwaneng Mine in 1998, having graduated with a BSc Engineering (Mining Engineering) from Wits University, (RSA) and progressed to the position of Section Manager in 2006. Two years later he joined DiamonEx, Lerala Diamond Mine as a Mine Manager and moved to Morupule Coal Mine in 2009 as Operations Readiness Manager. Koolatotse rose through the ranks to the position of Production Manager in Morupule before he rejoined Debswana Jwaneng Mine as Mining Manager in 2013. In 2015 he was appointed Senior Mining Manager until he was appointed Assistant General Manager in 2017. 

Over the years Koolatotse has demonstrated exceptional leadership in a number of key areas including safety, leadership development and technical expertise. He was instrumental in the delivery of the massive P24 billion CUT 8 project which was delivered safely, on time and on budget. He has also demonstrated exceptional leadership in key mining areas among them Dip Slope Mining, Contractor Mining and Employee Engagement. He is passionate about gender diversity and people development as demonstrated by his ability to mentor and coach junior engineers who have progressed exceptionally well under his guidance.

Koolatotse believes in working closely with government institutions and Local Authorities and the entire district leadership. He is a strong advocate of the need for social cohesion between communities and Jwaneng Mine.

He has undergone several leadership development programs including the prestigious Executing Strategy for Results from London Business School.

He is married to Veronica and they have three children.
