Anyone over the age of 18 can visit any of Debswana’s mines by sending a request or application to the Corporate Affairs department. Applicants are requested to provide the following details:
Full names and title
Gender
Date of birth
Passport or Botswana ID numbers and expiry dates
Nationality of the passport (in the case of international visitors)
Shoe size
Designation, and name of organisation or institution
Media accreditation cards if applicable
Requests for tours should reach the sites at least ten working days before the planned date of the tour. The Corporate Affairs office will confirm whether or not an application has been successful and provide advice on an alternative date, if necessary, within seven days of its receipt
All persons undertaking mine tours do so at their own risk and must fill in and submit an indemnity form supplied by Corporate Affairs before arriving at the mine.
All photography and film equipment must be declared upon initial request for a tour. Cell-phones, laptops and other electronic equipment are prohibited in the mine high security zones. Unauthorised equipment will be confiscated.
Professional photographers and film producers are expected to fill in a declaration form and are obligated to provide copies of recorded footage once it is completed.
All mine tours at Jwaneng Mine shall start from the Corporate Affairs office at 09h00. Mine tours at Orapa,Letlhakane and Damtshaa Mines shall start from the Corporate office at 08h00. Educational mine tours at both sites shall be conducted on Wednesdays and General mine tours on Fridays.
Media and VIP tours at both mines shall be conducted on agreed dates.
With the exception of VIP tours, a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 30 people shall be allowed on a tour at any one time. The Corporate Affairs department will supply visitors with the following Personal Protective Equipment where necessary:
Hard hats
Safety shoes
Reflective jackets
Visitors are required to wear long-sleeved shirts as well as full-length trousers, and should also bring socks to wear with the safety shoes.
Visitors are required to comply with the Semi-Precious and Precious Stones (Protection) Act, 1969.
All visitors shall undergo a safety and security induction prior to going on a mine tour.
