Our Shareholders
Debswana is a joint venture between the Government of the Republic of Botswana (50%) and De Beers Group (50%). This unique partnership has been the cornerstone of our success, driving economic growth, social development, and environmental stewardship in Botswana.
The De Beers Group of Companies and the Government of the Republic of Botswana (GRB) have an equal partnership known as Debswana. Debswana contributes the most to the rough diamond production of the De Beers Group. The diamonds produced from the four mines are sold to De Beers and Okavango Diamond Company. Debswana constitutes a substantial portion of Botswana’s national economy, contributing significantly to the GDP, foreign exchange profits, and government revenue of the nation. Employing around 5000 staff members and 6000 contractors, it is among the biggest employers in the private sector.
Debswana owns three companies in addition to the mines: Naledi Mining Services Company (Pty) Ltd., Wellness Fund Trust, and Sesiro Insurance Company (Pty) Limited. The company also owns 42% of Broadhurst Primary School (Pty) Ltd.
Sustainability
We understand that protecting the environment and our activities for coming generations is our responsibility. Debswana consequently takes great care to source its minerals in an ethical and sustainable manner.
