Recognizing the scarcity of water in Botswana, Debswana has invested in a state-of-the-art water recycling plant at our Letlhakane mine. This facility treats and purifies wastewater from mining operations, transforming it into high-quality water suitable for reuse in industrial processes. By recycling approximately X% of our water, we significantly reduce our demand on freshwater sources and help to preserve this precious resource for the community and environment.
Debswana is proud to partner with local communities in the Shashe River Basin on a comprehensive conservation project. This initiative focuses on protecting the Shashe River, a vital water source for both wildlife and people. Through collaborative efforts, we're implementing sustainable land management practices, raising awareness about environmental protection, and empowering communities to become stewards of their natural resources.
Debswana is committed to revitalizing the Jwana Game Park, a 1,500-hectare reserve adjacent to our Jwaneng mine. This multi-year project focuses on restoring native vegetation, improving water sources, and creating habitats for a variety of wildlife species. We're reintroducing indigenous plants, combating soil erosion, and establishing wildlife corridors to connect the park with other protected areas. By collaborating with local communities and conservation experts, we're fostering a thriving ecosystem that benefits both wildlife and local residents.

We are committed to being a leader in the mining industry’s transition to a low-carbon future. Our proactive climate action strategy focuses on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, transitioning to renewable energy sources, and fostering innovation to mitigate the impacts of climate change on Botswana’s environment and its people.
