Another panel discussion at the Women in Mining Pitso featured Debswana’s Ms. Thato Segadimo whom along other panelists unpacked Gender Responsive Procurement (GRP) in Botswana’s mining sector as a key driver of the economy, but an area where women remain significantly underrepresented.
Ms. Segadimo shared on how Debswana is intentional about moving from broader economic empowerment policies to align and strengthen programmes that drive real change in the mining sector as far as GRP is concerned. She also shared Debswana is working with all other stakeholders, including financial institutions to ensure that women are not left on the sidelines but are integral to shaping and benefiting from the sector’s growth.
The panel was moderated by Ms Segametsi Mafa and other panelists included Dr. Katinka van Craneburgh and Ms. Julia Ditlhong.
