The Honourable Minister of Minerals & Energy, Ms. Bogolo Joy Kenewendo has called for stakeholders to strengthen women participation in the diamond and mining industry, as well as to embrace inclusivity and new ways of doing things. The Minister said this in her keynote address, this morning, 14 May 2025 at the opening of the Women in Mining Botswana (WiMBO) Pitso held in Gaborone under the theme ‘Embracing Inclusivity and Resilience for A New Era’.
The Minister also spoke on the importance of developing ecosystems around mining and energy that are embedded with inclusivity and resilience. She highlighted that innovation, digital transformation and cleaner energy solutions are critical for sustenance of the mining industry. In conclusion, Honourable Kenewendo lauded WiMBO for championing the growth and empowerment of women.
Other speakers during the opening session include the Chief Executive Officer of the Botswana Chamber of Mines, Mr. Charles Siwawa. Debswana women are also in attendance, including the Executive Head of Governance, Risk and Compliance, Ms. Tshegofatso Modise.
