JWANENG MINE HOSTS ACACIA TEACHERS’ DAY TOUR

In celebration of Teachers’ Day, Jwaneng Mine proudly hosted educators from Acacia Primary School for a special mine tour. The event was held to honour the essential role teachers play in shaping the nation and to deepen their appreciation of the diamond value chain and mine operations.

Welcoming the teachers, Acting Corporate Affairs Manager Mr. Tumisang Entaile highlighted the profound impact of the teaching profession. He noted that education is a holistic and timeless calling that forms the foundation of national development.

Following the necessary Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) and security inductions, the teachers proceeded to the mine pit. Engineers from various departments offered insights into the systems and processes that drive one of the world’s richest diamond mines.

A key highlight was an up-close look at one of the mine’s 930 shovels. The group also interacted with a female operator, who shared her experience and responsibilities as part of the heavy mining equipment (HME) crew, offering a personal perspective on the technical and operational aspects of her role.

The Acacia teachers expressed their gratitude to the Corporate Affairs and Mining departments for the engaging and informative tour. The visit not only deepened their understanding of the mining sector but also reinforced the connection between Debswana and its education initiatives. This engagement reflects Debswana’s ongoing commitment to community empowerment, education, and celebrating the contributions of those who shape the future.
