TECHNICAL DEPARTMENT HANDS OVER AN IRRIGATION SYSTEM FOR MMATHUBUDUKWANE RECLAIMATION PARK

On Friday, 21 November 2025, the Technical Department handed over a new irrigation system to the community of Mmathubudukwane, marking one year since the team planted 150 trees in the local reclamation park.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Maunganudze, District Coordinator at the Kgatleng Department of Forestry and Range Resources, applauded Debswana for supporting communities and contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals through projects of this nature.

Giving an overview, Mr. Sethoko highlighted the park’s role in reducing soil erosion, restoring degraded land, and improving safety for the Mmathubudukwane community.

Debswana’s Chief Technical Officer, Mr. Bakani Motlhabani, explained that continuous monitoring of the trees revealed the need for an irrigation system to reduce manual labour and improve project sustainability. He noted that the initiative aligns with Debswana’s ESG goals of protecting natural habitats and supporting thriving communities. He further recognised the partnership with Evalanche Holdings (PTY) LTD as an example of SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals.

Receiving the system on behalf of the community, local leadership expressed gratitude, noting that the donation comes at a crucial time as the council seeks more sustainable projects. They commended the Debswana Technical Team for completing what they started and contributing to government efforts to strengthen Public–Private Partnerships through collaboration with the Department of Forestry and Range Resources and the Village Development Committee.
