Debswana recently joined the Ministry of Lands and Agriculture at a leadership forum focused on transforming Botswana’s land management and agriculture sector. Speaking on a panel about economic diversification, Socio-Economic Development Manager Patrick Mokwele emphasised agriculture’s critical role in the country’s future beyond diamonds. He highlighted Debswana’s commitment through its ESG strategy, supporting agricultural projects in partnership with local councils, particularly in Boteti. Initiatives such as horticulture, small stock development and the “Diamonds to Mutton” programme are improving livelihoods, strengthening food security and boosting rural economies, while contributing to national goals of increasing agriculture’s share of GDP by 2036.
