At the African Union Sports Council Region 5 Strategy Review Forum, Debswana’s Head of Sustainability & Social Impact, Rachel Mothibatsela, emphasised the need to reposition sport as a key economic driver in Africa. She highlighted its potential to create jobs, support livelihoods, and grow industries, noting the global sport sector’s rapid expansion.
Mothibatsela stressed that sponsorships must deliver measurable value, aligning with business, marketing, and sustainability goals. She also reflected on Debswana’s long-standing investment in sport, contributing over BWP180 million in the past decade.
Her message underscored the importance of partnerships, strong governance, and sustainable models to unlock sport’s full socio-economic impact.
