Debswana Diamond Company joins the rest of the world to commemorate World Water Day on the 22 of March and reaffirms its commitment to be a responsible steward of this valuable resources. Access to water is a fundamental human right and a key enabler for social equality and prosperity.
As part of our efforts to create a legacy of prosperity and resilience in Botswana and among communities around our operations, Debswana works closely with stakeholders to manage water supply and the social, reputational and operational risks that result from our water use. We continue to engage communities to
understand our water-related socioeconomic impacts and to enhance stakeholder dialogue and the management of social issues.
Debswana is committed to ensuring that the water resources its manage priorities reduction fresh water withdrawals in a number of our production processes and translate to additional water availability in ways that are socially equitable, environmentally sustainable and economically beneficial.
Mining remains a water-intensive industry and we anticipate global water supplies to remain stressed amid the ongoing impact of climate change and variability, with increasing extreme weather events. To address these challenges, Debswana has made water stewardship an integral part of how we operate across all our sites.

Recently Debswana participated the review of Water Framework Act and related regulations a part of our commitment to collaborate with communities, government and other industries–about shared water use. Debswana departments that participated in the workshop were Hydrogeology, Corporate Affairs, Legal, Safety and Sustainable Development and Engineering. The workshop was facilitated by the Ministry of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services and attended by Botswana Chamber of Mines, Water Apportionment Board, Water Utilities Corporation, Botswana Bureau of Standards, and Botswana Horticulture Association
