Following a thorough needs assessment conducted by Orapa, Letlhakane and Damtshaa Mines (OLDM)’s Corporate Affairs (CA), Social Impact, and Business Improvement teams in collaboration with the management of Motsumi Junior Secondary School, the departments recently donated 12 mobile whiteboards and a siren valued at P16,000 to the school in Letlhakane.
In his welcome remarks, the Deputy Council Chairperson Hon. Pelonomi Thekiso acknowledged Debswana’s continued investment in education stating that despite the current challenges in the diamond market OLDM continues to make great impact in Motsumi JSS. “Despite prevailing challenges, Debswana employees continue to invest in the communities, especially schools to improve learning conditions and promote academic success,” he said.
During his donation overview presentation, OLDM Senior Technical Support Services Manager, Mr Moemedi Merafhe stated that the donation will go a long way in transforming the learner experience at Motsumi JSS and more importantly influence an upward improvement in students’ academic performance. He further stated that collaborative efforts are essential towards addressing challenges in the education sector, underscoring that Debswana will continue with its efforts to improve students and schools’ performance as this does not only contribute to Debswana’s purpose to Make Life Brilliant but also aligns with the Sustainable Development Goal no 4 and National Vision 2036 pillars. Merafhe noted that the donation is part of the Debswana’s Employee Volunteerism Programme where employees are encouraged to volunteer their time and resources to give back to the communities.
Motsumi JSS Deputy School Head, Galenthome Boima giving a vote of thanks on behalf of the school, thanked Debswana employees for their generous donation, stating that the donation will go a long way in improving teaching and learning experience. She encouraged students to take care of the donated items to ensure that they address the challenges the school has been faced with.
