Debswana Orapa Letlhakane and Damtsha Mines (OLDM) primary school Livingstone House Coding and Robotics Club, known as The Earth Movers, recently participated in the inaugural First Cultural Exchange Showcase with Swerve Robotics from the United States of America.
Organized by Dare To Dream in partnership with the U.S. Embassy in Botswana, the event was held at the Embassy’s Recreational Park in Gaborone and brought together young innovators to share knowledge, skills, and cultural experiences.
The exchange aimed to inspire collaboration in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through robotics, coding, music, and cultural appreciation. Students demonstrated their capabilities in problem-solving, design, coding, innovation, and teamwork while interacting with their American counterparts and distinguished guests.
Plans are already underway for future international visits and collaborations, which are expected to open more opportunities for young Batswana in technology and innovation.
The showcase was attended by senior government officials and private sector leaders, who emphasized the importance of creating platforms for young people to explore emerging technologies. The event also attracted media attention, with students being interviewed by Radio Botswana about their coding journey.
Representing the future of Botswana’s tech talent, Adrienne Madzhele, a Standard 5 student at Livingstone House and President of the Botswana Coding Team, took part in a panel discussion where she shared her personal journey in coding and robotics. She encouraged fellow learners to embrace technology, highlighting its potential to shape their futures.
The event marked a significant step in fostering international cooperation, cultural exchange, and the empowerment of Botswana’s youth through technology.
