Speaking on the first day of the 4th Women in Mining Botswana Organisation Pitso, Debswana Chief Operations Officer, Koolatotse Koolatotse, challenged participants to answer the call of leadership and make intentional choices that create sustainable employment opportunities in Botswana.
During a fireside discussion on what could contribute to Botswana’s economy in the same transformative way diamonds have, Koolatotse identified leadership as “the next diamond” for the country. He emphasized that Botswana needs leaders who understand global dynamics and can make informed decisions that create lasting impact.
Addressing women empowerment and employment, he shared that his support for women in leadership and the workplace is rooted in his upbringing. He spoke about being raised by a versatile and capable mother whose example shaped his belief in the abilities of women.
Koolatotse further challenged leaders across industries not only to employ competent women, but also to intentionally address structural barriers that prevent women from acquiring critical skills and competencies.
